Author: Michael Fenwick

When you're having a panic attack, you're whole world can feel like it's coming down around you. While there are many natural remedies for panic attacks, most take time to prepare and use effectively. Here are five simple tips for panic attacks you can use wherever and whenever you need.

1. Recognize the symptoms

Learning to recognize the symptoms of anxiety attacks will help you take action before they get worse. They include a racing heart or palpitations, chest pain, rapid or shallow breathing, a choking sensation, lightheadedness, and tingling or numbness.

2. Focus on breathing

During a panic attack, your breathing often becomes shallow and rapid which only makes the panic attack worse. You can slow your breath down by breathing in to the count of 7 and out for the count of 11. This will help calm your body and make it easier for you to stop your panic attack.

3. Be aware of your thoughts

Notice what you're think about. Chances are you're very focused on whatever made you to feel anxious in the first place. Divert your thoughts instead on things pleasant and relaxing to you. While this may not be an easy technique to follow, with persistence and practice, this can be one of the most effective tips for panic attacks.

4. Talk to yourself

The mind is very open to suggestion, even during a panic attack. Repeat to yourself, "I'm safe. Nothing bad is really happening to me. Everything is going to be okay. " Just by giving yourself this positive self-talk you will be able to calm yourself enough to manage your panic attack more effectively.

5. Get your feet on the ground

During a panic attacks you are either reliving an upsetting experience in the past or anticipating one in the future. Grounding yourself where you are right now can help stop your panic attack. Try pressing your feet one at a time into the ground as you are standing. This is even more effective if you are able to lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet on the wall. Shift your feet, breathing in as you push against the wall and out as you release. Repeat for 10-15 minutes or until your panic attack subsides.

These are just a few of the most effective tips for panic attacks. If you practice them regularly you will soon begin to see results, and in time end your panic attacks for good.
