'Glancing over the Times of India my eyes soon witnessed an article where a citizen of Bangalore had mentioned that he missed the 'droppings' of the sparrow and the sparrows which visited his house often. Very true indeed! Lakes, Ponds, Tankbeds have indeed disappeared!
Landing in Bangalore from Lucknow, this Journalist was surprised to see the ever green greenery that covered the city with efficient traffic policeman regulating the traffic with ease. Returning from work one day by the auto, the autowalla began to hold a conversation with this Journalist about how 'money' had become the ultimate motive for the citizens living in Bangalore. Three months later as the Journalist boarded another auto, a traffic jam came in their way.
Moving at a snail pace the autowalla began holding a conversation with this man informing him that for the citizens of Bangalore 'money' has become the most important priority rather than 'love, compassion & affection.' He then elaborates that people do come from different places and settles in Bangalore due to the cool climate prevailing and tries to own a house. After acquiring the house they look out for a job after which they then want a two wheeler as this would save them time not bothered from which side they overtake mostly from the left side of a vehicle unaware of what is in front of them, it maybe a truck carrying piles of iron roads without a red flag tied at the end.
Further along they want to get married and been married they opt for two cars-one for the husband to take him to work and the other for the wife to take her children to school and a black and white TV won't do but a colour one! Now the husband and the wife have to work harder to earn more money, the wife forgoes the sarees as they are quite expensive, it is best for her to go half-dressed! Thus with the money saved they make their children more comfortable by constructing rooms for them never mind if they have to use a part of the road and also by providing them with tables, chairs, beds and colour TV's. Ultimately where is the space left in Bangalore for the vehicles to move along the streets of the city?
Footpaths have been encroached by the houses and the construction of Metro Rail had forced the pedestrians to walk on the road. Potholes, humps and channels also dots on most of the roads of Bangalore. One can even make a guide map of these for the convenience for the people living and travelling in Bangalore.
Poorly laid drainage system adds to the inconvenience of the public as leaking pipes are sure to make its way onto the roads for certain. Rash driving is not a concern for the traffic policemen these days until two vehicles crash or when someone is knocked down by a vehicle. Car Pooling in the city is definitely a 'No- No' for the citizens of Bangalore, Prestige & Self Esteem been more important to them.
