The Best Breast Cancer Treatment Option?

Treating an ailment has become very easy in the 21st Century, with dozens of options available for every disease varying with every symptom. The same goes for breast cancer, and people suffering from it can opt for various therapies ranging from surgery to laser therapy.

Meant for a certain area like the breast or lymph nodes, instead of the entire body, diagnosis of breast cancer is normally done by some form of surgery like a biopsy. When it is discovered there are two types of surgery that can be performed. One is the mastectomy where the entire breast is removed, and the other is a partial mastectomy, where only part of the breast is removed. These two options are considered effective for women with breast cancer that is not that big in diameter. For women with a single tumor larger, partial mastectomy may still be an idea if chemotherapy is able to shrink the cancer enough before surgery.

Systemic therapy is good in order to get rid of any cells that may have spread to other parts of the body. If the cancer has spread and has formed tumors elsewhere this treatment can help shrink the cancer and hopefully lead to a remission, which would be ideal for everyone.

This treatment is mainly decided by the characteristics of the cancer. The more aggressive the cancer is then it will have a higher risk of spreading outside that area and into other areas where treatment can be harder to do.

Therapies are taken by either a pill or even sometimes by injection. Chemotherapy can be administered by either way and is used to destroy cancer cells that it finds. Immune therapy is widely unknown and not used as much as the other therapies just because it is new. It works the same way that getting a flu shot works, it makes the body think that something is attacking it, so that it was use its defense systems which are the while blood cells to fight the infection, or whatever the problem may be.

Many people are turning to what is known as Complementary therapy. The principle behind Complementary therapy is that it restores the body's natural health so that the body becomes capable of fighting infections on its own. Complementary therapies include yoga, massages, chiropractic, herbal remedies' intake and acupuncture. People who have tried this therapy are more than just satisfied by the results, and they can reaffirm that it makes them feel a lot better while they're surviving the disease. There is absolutely nothing to lose by trying this therapy, only a chance to feel better and healthier.

There is treatment for breast cancer. Read about how to win the fight against the tumor and what decisions you must make to get to your best breast cancer treatment option.

Passport To Cancer Drugs

I started my kidney cancer journey back in December 0f 2006, and it's a journey I wouldn't wish on others because real anxiety is hard to manage. For me I've been "lucky" I guess in that any turmoil on my part has been less physiological and more psychological. Yes I had a rather hideous radical nephrectomy back in March 2007, but there was far less pain than I'd anticipated, and I was far more concerned about the diagnosis of cancer than I was about any pain or dying on an operating table or being invalided in some way.

And then I look at others who've been inflicted with this silent killer, others who have a tougher prognosis than me i.e. Metastatic Kidney Cancer, and I see how they are coping with it all. There are some amazing people out there is all I can say, their capacity to cope should be an inspiration to others, it certainly is to me. I look at some of the stories on ACOR and on Kidney Cancer Resource, and each time it stuns me how nonchalant folks can be about their condition, almost as if it's just some minor inconvenience.

It's at times like these I realise that part of the human condition dictates that if something life changing like cancer comes along then we seem to simply re-adjust our life boundaries and expectations to match, we look for ways to push it to the back of our minds as much as possible and move on with life.

It's like some post-war Ealing comedy film pushing the "We shall overcome" mentality. "Passport To Pimlico" is what came to mind when I was thinking about how we re-adjust to the circumstances around us, not sure why it came to mind, but it's happens to be a film I love.

In a bizarre way my means of dealing with it has been to completely immerse myself in Kidney Cancer by using the technical computing skills to help others in the same situation. It's really odd, but if someone asks about my next scan, or what my prognosis is then I move the conversation on as quickly as I can and try and change the subject. Totally bonkers given I spend so much of my non-working time on a site that's pretty much 100% dedicated to Kidney Cancer, but somehow it works. This seems to be part of my re-adjustment.

That's not to say that people don't have their ups and downs with this disease, it's a pretty relentless thing, but there always seems to be that underlying thread of bravery that says ..."Come on, do your worst!!"

I can't help admiring that.

And then we have our UK NHS, which in principal is a wonderful thing. "Free treatment when you need it" is one of the mantras. The reality is somewhat different i.e. "Free Treatment only if it's cost effective enough and you live in the right part of the country". You'd think that with all the natural anxiety, emotional turmoil and physical symptoms that a Metastatic kidney Cancer patient has to go through that the NHS would bend over backwards to alleviate that and stick by it's mission statement. What is even more irksome is your right to drugs is dependant on what part of the county you live, it's so ridiculously unfair.

Which leads nicely back to "Passport To Pimlico" where the community of Pimlico is ring-fenced by the government because some ancient law dictates that Pimlico is no longer part of Great Britain, all their rights as UK citizens are revoked and they are left to fend for themselves with no food, water or utilities... The usual Ealing comedy chaos ensues. And yet inches away in Chelsea or Brompton life goes on as usual with all citizenship rights in tact. Basically bureaucracy gone mad, and made plain for all to see and laugh at.

It maybe a poor analogy but it's the same with Sutent in the UK, because NICE have yet to approve the drug officially it gives the local PCTs an excuse to deny it to patients on the grounds that it's not "Cost Effective". So if you live in one area of the country you maybe lucky, others you won't. How on earth anyone can think that this is fair is beyond my comprehension.

Causes of Pancreatic Cancer

There are no official preventative measures that can be taken to ensure one won't develop pancreatic cancer. However, by being aware of the 4 pancreatic cancer causes you are still in a better position since you can at least suspect the disease if you start developing its symptoms. Knowing the 4 pancreatic cancer causes can also assist your doctors if they have to make pancreatic cancer diagnosis. With that being said, learn about the 4 pancreatic causes by reading more about them below.

1. Race

First on the list of the 4 pancreatic causes is race. African American men and women are at greater risk of developing the disease.

2. Weight

Weight is one of the 4 pancreatic causes that a person can actually do something about. If they do they decrease their risk of developing the disease, since overweight people tend to be more at risk than their thin counterparts. It should be noted that it doesn't matter how much extra weight a person is carrying. Overweight people and obese people are both equally at risk for getting pancreatic cancer.

3. Pre-existing Conditions

Certain conditions have been known to trigger pancreatic cancer. Specifically these conditions are diabetes and hereditary pancreatitis. Diabetes is a condition in which one's insulin levels are not normal. Whether they are too low or too high, it can result in pancreatic cancer later in a person's life, even if it's temporary, (which is the case with gestational diabetes).

The other condition responsible for pancreatic cancer is hereditary pancreatitis. This is a rare condition in which a person gets chronic pancreatitis, which is painful inflammation of the pancreas. Perhaps the disease makes the pancreas more susceptible to abnormal tumor growth because it is putting the organ through high level of stress already. Either way, if you do suffer from hereditary pancreatitis, you will want to especially be on the lookout for pancreatic cancer symptoms.

4. Smoking

Smoking is another one of the 4 pancreatic causes that can be controlled, even if it's difficult for one that has become addicted to it. And while many think smoking puts the lungs more at risk, statistics reveal that the practice makes one just as prone to developing pancreatic cancer. Specifically, smokers are two to three times more likely to get pancreatic cancer. And of all the pancreatic cases that are out there, one in three of them will involve a victim who is a smoker. So, the ultimate lesson is if you're smoking find a way to stop it. This is especially the case if any of the other 4 pancreatic cancer causes discussed in this article also apply to you.

Now, don't panic if you find any of the 4 pancreatic cancer causes apply to you. Just because you possess one or more of the risk factors doesn't automatically mean you'll develop the disease. But don't be foolish either. Try your best to keep your overall health in order by exercising and eating a healthy diet, especially one full of foods known to be cancer-fighting agents, (such as broccoli). This won't guarantee you'll be fully protected against pancreatic cancer, but it will make your body in a better position to fight off elements that may promote tumor growth.

You can learn more about pancreatic cancer treatment as well as the symptoms of pancreatic cancer on my website http://www.PancreaticCancerTreatment.net My website includes a whole range of articles focusing on the problems caused by pancreatic cancer, treatments and of course what you should do if you think you have pancreatic cancer.

New Treatment for Melanoma

Scientists have long wondered why some skin cells developed into moles, and some skin cells develop into the deadly skin cancer, melanoma. Well, recently US researchers have theorized that this is due to a missing protein known as IGFBP7. This naturally secreted protein prevents cells from developing into melanoma, and this action holds promise to improve treatments for melanoma, the skin cancer most likely to be fatal unless caught in the early stages.

If not caught in the early stages, melanoma can be a particularly virulent form of cancer, spreading through the body with an efficiency that few tumors possess. It has recently been discovered that unlike many other cancers, melanoma is born with its metastatic engines fully revved. In other words, in melanoma, when the melanocytes--cells that protect the skin from sun damage by producing pigmentation--morph into cancer cells, they immediately reawaken a dormant cellular process that lets them travel swiftly throughout the body.

The most interesting and important fact is that IGFBP7 is part of our bodies natural defense against cancer, and in the case of melanoma, this protein appears to turn off. Recently a lab test on mice was performed on melanoma cells with a synthetic form of the protein, and the cancers actually stopped growing.

What that means is that IGFBP7 could be used as a targeted treatment, because the melanoma is sensitive to the protein. Melanoma, a less common but the most deadly skin cancer, kills close to 9,000 people in the United States alone.

The interesting fact is, that moles, also know as nevi, are harmless, are caused by an uncontrolled growth of melanoytes, as is melanoma. Studies have shown that a mutation in a gene called BRAF, causes cells to multiply abnormally in both melanoma and moles, and it was by studying BRAF that they discovered the protein IGFBP7 found the code that is responsible for this natural defense system. The interesting thing is that this protein is secreted, therefore it can affect the cells surrounding, unlike most proteins which only work inside of cells. It appears to communicate to the surrounding cells to ignore the BRAF mutations and tells them to either self destruct... or at least hibernate.

IGFBP7 is also sited as a potential tumor suppressor for breast cancers, lung cancers, and prostate cancers.

Information On Mohs Surgery

Of all of the cancers that are reported each year in the U.S., Skin cancer is found to be the most prevalent. In fact, some experts have estimated that up to half of the entire population of the U.S. that reaches the age of fifty will contract it at some point in their life and this is one of the biggest reasons why awareness is so important. Each year there are over one million new skin cancer cases reported in the U.S. and with an aging population this figure is only expected to increase.

There are three main types of skin cancer that are most often found and they are all treatable but as in all other cancers early detection is they key to surviving. The least severe and most easily treated is " Basal Cell Carcinoma" which is a slow growing cancer that begins on the skins surface. The form of skin cancer with the next higher level of severity is called "Squamous Cell Carcinoma" and it too is highly treatable if detected in its early stages.

"Melanoma" is the most severe and difficult to treat form of skin cancer, because it is faster growing and effects the deeper skin layers. There are several forms of treatment for skin cancer and the treatment that is employed is usualy determined by the severity and location of the cancer. Fully one fourth of all skin cancers are treated by the surgical technique known as "Micrographic surgery" or Mohs as it is commonly referred to.

This surgical technique offers the benefit of sacrificing the least amount of healthy tissue, while at the same time offering the highest success rate. This all translates into faster recovery with minimal scarring. This surgery is performed under local anesthesia, meaning that the patient is awake, yet feels no pain. The skin is marked out in a grid-work that is used to guide the surgeon during the process that removes the cancerous tissue in increments, until its outer edge are breached and all of the cancer is removed.

The Truth About Cancer

You may not be able to change things much, but you will not be able to change anything at all, unless you know the facts behind the influences in your life, and the lives of your children. Read Dr. Mary's Monkey, by Edward T. Haslam.

Prior to 1955 the disease called Polio was a curse on the world, crippling and killing many people, mostly children. After 1955 a workable vaccine was developed, and children were vaccinated against this terrible disease at an early age.

Unfortunately, this polio vaccine was initially grown on the kidneys of monkeys, and it was not until a few years after the polio vaccine was invented that the first cancer-causing monkey virus was detected; to the horror of all involved it soon became evident that there were multiple cancer-causing monkey viruses tainting the new polio vaccines. This caused the medical establishment to begin looking for cancer cures right away, which were going to be needed once the recipients of the polio vaccines came of age. Richard Nixon declared war on cancer and huge funds were made available to combat what was expected to be a future cancer epidemic.

During this time several of the new polio vaccines were removed from the market because of tainting with cancer-causing monkey viruses, though very little mention was made of the problem in the media. Albert Sabin, developer of the first working polio vaccine, was quoted thus, concerning the tainted vaccines and the need to keep it mum:

"...Theres too much scaring the public unnecessarily. Oh your children were injected with a cancer virus and all that. Thats not very good!"

Regardless of what was said at the time though, the cancer epidemic that was perceived and expected way back when has now become a reality. The figures of cancer increases in the last 50+ years bear all this out, which means that 50 years after this virally tainted vaccine was used, soft tissue cancers are indeed epidemic, with over one million (And counting!) new cases reported each year. Consider the fact that prior to 1955, or earlier, many of these cancers were virtually UNKNOWN, and one begins to see some truth, however disconcerting.

Even more unfortunate than all that bad news is this: once the cancer causing monkey viruses were discovered via the polio vaccine, they then became objects of study by weapons makers, not least of who were involved in a vendetta against the Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Great efforts were made by many people in the government and the medical industry in New Orleans, Louisiana, to mutate these cancer causing monkey viruses with radiation, so that they could be used as a weapon against Castro. Their efforts paid off big and fast, with one subject, a federal prisoner who had volunteered for the experiment, being killed in 28 days! The prisoner of course had not been told the test was fatal.

Some of these weapons are now on the loose as well. According to the Center For Disease Control, ten of the top twelve bioterror agents used in modern warfare manifest as skin cancers, or other incurable and deadly soft tissue cancers! Cancer has been weaponised, and that fact has been hidden well. It is time to wake up. Time to smell the pork.

Among the players in this bio-charade and soap opera of disease were many high power medical names, including one of the worlds top specialists in cancer research, Dr. Mary Sherman, who died during this research in a very unnatural way. Also involved in this Get-Castro-Program were David Ferrie, Lee Harvey Oswald, Alton Ochsner, and many others whose names appear regularly in most investigations of the Kennedy assassination. Yes, this cancer weapon program has also been inextricably linked to the Kennedy assassination, and the ties that bind? Spell That C-I-A.

This book by Edward T. Haslam covers all of the above, and much much more, with documentation and great detail, from an insiders perspective. Mr. Haslam's father was a doctor and a teacher at Tulane in New Orleans, and it was from this source that Mr. Haslam began his lifelong investigation. Dr. Marys Monkey is a distillation of information and evidence concerning what can only be called a long term attack on the American people. It is, by all means, a Must Read.

After reading this book, I began to see certain patterns of history, if you will, and it seemed to me that the War On Cancer was just the first of many wars declared, then lost, by these foreign clowns and criminals who have infiltrated American Government, Medicine, Media, and Education. These wars which have been declared ad nauseum by the treasonous politico freaks and liars, whose latest versions are the war on drugs and the war on terror, do nothing so much as nurture the very forces that war is supposedly being made on.

I have also detected other patterns by reading this work, and have wondered several times if this was not an engineered happening, this sowing of cancer; was it a created circumstance, along the lines of 911, or Colombian cocaine?

This creation of a cancer epidemic seems more than anything just a very good way to A) make Americans and their insurance moneys accessible to the medical industry forever and ever; and B) nurture a nazi-like program of culling/eugenics, which is a hallmark of certain administrations who have been passing the football back and forth amongst each other now for over 50 years; and C) It is a perfect way to cover up an expected and accelerated increase in cancer which would of course erupt in conjunction with increased wireless and broadcast technologies; and D) It is a way to obtain stem cells, because even though great noise had been made over the foetal stem cell issue, the real truth of the matter is that most stem cells are derived from cancer tumors. Some cancer tumors sell for many thousands of dollars per slice, and collection activities are well developed, cryogenic, mobile, and these tumors are kept in what is called Tumor BANKS. FYI.

So.

Was the creation of this cancer epidemic used to foster a malignant, galloping growth in technical medicine which would never have transpired without? Are we seeing the real value of Human Life, as equated to paper money by doctors?

Hmmmmm?

Do get the book. See for yourself what kind of fetid and odorous intellectual dungeon you have been born into. One need only look around oneself in order to obtain a sense of the diabolical, to learn about the true devil, and all his preachers.

I suggest you start with the president, and then his closest advisors, if it is your wish to come face to face with diabolism. They are the true inheritors of this state of affairs, and it can actually be said that all this was prepared for them, to further their ends, and to further the ends of their families. The deceit, the cheating, the stealing: the seeming relish for pain and suffering and torture and hate. It is everywhere these days, and the media as well embraces this glamor of suffering and shame with gaiety and gnashing teeth. Do not believe any of them, they worship the father of lies, and America will be better off without them, when that great day comes.

Read it twice.

Cancers Silent Treatment

During my personal journey through cancer, now over thirteen years ago, I made an interesting emotional observation. This observation led me to coin a term I call "a sick mentality". For anyone who has even been very sick and/or fought a deadly illness or disease such as cancer you will identify with either having or fighting this mentality. It starts with accepting that you are not in perfect health and that, in itself, is not bad. In fact, for simple life preservation, many times it is imperative that you change things about your lifestyle, actions and attitudes.

However, after those changes have been made if is important that you do not get a "sick mentality". By that I mean that all you think about, talk about....every action you take is based on an inner attitude of "I am a sick person". Our minds work in such a way that the more we tell ourselves we are sick we actually spiral down mentally and emotionally which then may cause us to spiral down more physically. It will become a vicious spiral unless steps are taken to stop it.

One of the best ways to help keep the spiral from starting - or to stop it and start it moving the opposite direction is to take action regarding how you take care of yourself and how you look. I firmly believe that looking your best is a cancer treatment.

I know you don't feel good during the cancer journey and that it is more of a challenge physically to put yourself together, especially if your body has changed due to surgery. You will find, though, that if you get up each morning and get dressed (even if you are not going anywhere) it does something to your psyche. You do not have to dress up or even dress in street clothes. Just pulling on a pair of comfy pull-on pants and a soft top that are color coordinated is a good start. When you stay in your bedclothes you tend to feel lazy and sloppy. That affects how you walk and hold yourself. You need to be standing up straight and talking steps not shuffling if you physically capable of doing that. On a day when you are going somewhere, like the doctors office or perhaps you need to work even though you are ill be sure to think about wearing something that is a bit fitted and in a color that complements your complexion. These two things alone will make you feel a bit more perky and pretty.

Your skin care and makeup regimen also need to morph with you during this time...but that does not mean doing nothing because you don't feel like it. This is a sure way to make yourself feel worse with that "sick mentality" spiral. You need to be doing basic skin care and putting your face on daily. A simple makeup regimen of an organic mineral foundation in a sun-kissed color combined with a moisturizing colored lip gloss and a bit or mascara only takes a couple of minutes to apply. If you are on a chemotherapy that causes hair loss there are a few more steps you can add for days you need to look a bit more professional or dressed up. There are several companies that offer eyebrow stencils and there is even a company called NuBrow that sells eyebrow prosthetics! These prosthetic eyebrows can be dyed to match your natural hair color and will last up to six weeks of daily applications. A simple dot and smear technique to give the illusion of eyelashes is easy to learn or you can have false eyelashes professionally applied. (Please do not apply them yourself unless you have been doing it already for years. Your eyes are especially susceptible to infection during treatment, It is not worth taking the risk. You will love the dot and smear method as an alternative.)

More than perhaps any other time in your life you will want to adopt a KISS attitude..."keep it simple sister". Just remember simple does not equal doing nothing. This is a time to explore your options and have some fun doing it. So much is being dictated for you but this is something you can take control of. Looking your best really is cancers silent treatment.

Nail Enemies and Infection

Author: Franchis Adam

When you consider how rough humans are on their fingers and toes, you realize why nails have to be tough. Nails are the barrier between our skin and hard surfaces, hot water, chemicals, and physical trauma. Yet nails are also vulnerable. You may not realize this, but many everyday activities and situations can weaken, dehydrate, break, or even cause infections in nails or the nail bed.

If you experience separation of the nail from the nail bed, crumbling or splitting of the nail, redness and swelling of the skin around the nail, or discoloration of the nail, talk to your doctor. You may have psoriasis - a chronic skin disease.

Nail infections

Infections not only undermine nail health, they can make nails downright unattractive. When present in and around the nails, infections can cause redness, swelling, pain, blistering, oozing puss, discoloration of the nail, and deformation of the nail. Should you experience any of these symptoms, see a dermatologist or podiatrist immediately!

Bacterial infections occur when bacteria enters the skin around or under the nail. The nail is usually well-fortified to keep the many types of bacteria we are exposed to each day. However, flaky skin, a cut, or an injury either to cuticle or the area underneath the nail (perhaps from aggressive grooming with a sharp, metal instrument) is just the portal bacteria needs to enter your body. Once under your skin or nails, the bacteria attack healthy tissue. Bacterial infections almost always feature pus, and often involve blisters, redness, swelling, separation of the nail from the nail bed, and pain. An antibiotic ointment can clear things up; in severe cases, your doctor may also prescribe an oral antibiotic.

Fungal infections

A form of microscopic plant, fungus can attach itself to a variety of surfaces. Fungal nail infections occur when these small plants take up residence in your nails' keratin. The best way to treat fungal infections is prevention. Fungus breeds in dark, damp, warm environments, so avoid walking barefoot in locker rooms, through mud, or in swampy areas. Furthermore, fungus loves dark, damp shoes and socks, which means toenails are more frequently plagued than fingernails. If you should get a fungal infection, your doctor will prescribe an antifungal ointment or oral antifungal medication. Fungal infections are particularly vexing since they must grow out with your nail. This means that even with care, an infection can take up to 7 months to cure. If left untreated, fungus-infested nails will become yellowed and deformed.

The majority of nail problems are caused by improper trimming, minor injuries, or repeated nail trauma.

A Healthy Colon Is The Key To A Healthy Body

Maintaining a healthy colon is one of the single most important steps you can take to detoxify your body of accumulated toxins and waste. A healthy colon is truly essential to one's overall health, especially when you consider that literally everything you eat ends up in your bowels as toxins. Part of the reason so many Americans have an unhealthy colon is the lack of fiber benefits to their diet. Furthermore, the average American diet includes less than a fraction of the fiber foods necessary to promote elimination of toxins from the body.

Poor diet, improper food-combining and lack of dietary fiber make maintenance of a healthy colon virtually impossible. In many cases a person on the typical Western diet can hold up to 8 meals of undigested food in the colon and digestive tract which can cause bad bacteria to increase their numbers and that persons weight to increase. Lets be honest, no one who eats a "modern" diet can escape the formation of mucoid and metabolic waste deposits on the inner walls of their colon. Colon cleansing is an ongoing process that can be helped along by diet, exercise and water consumption.

Colon cleansing is vital to maintaining optimal health and simple to accomplish when you use a natural colon cleanse product. If you currently suffer with chronic constipation, diarrhea or general irregularity, a powerful colon cleanse maybe just the solution you need. The benchmark for any colon cleanse is the ability to consistently produce thick, dark and rubbery bowel movements, the sign of a successful cleanse. The key is listening to your own body to know if you need to cleanse daily, every three weeks, every quarter, or semi annually.

Natural herbal colon cleansers makes the process of colon cleansing very smooth and thus helps us to maintain our body in a much more effective way. Balanced and proper diet along with herbal cleansers will cleanse the colon over long periods of time but those with serious conditions need to take quick action. If you have any of these common symptoms of toxicity, you need to cleanse.

When you have cleansed your colon and restored the balance of the good and bad bacteria, when you have adequate production of enzymes and your dietary intake and internal production of vitamins is correct, your food intolerance should greatly improve or disappear.

If you don't have time and lead a busy lifestyle the easiest and most effective way to start cleansing is to simply try a colon cleanser such as Bowtrol, which personally helped me kill my candida infection, parasites, and eliminated my chronic acne.

Treat Hemorrhoids Effectively

Dealing with hemorrhoids can be challenging and embarrassing at the same time. These swollen veins can be painful. Overtime they can become itchy. Once they arise you need to take action. However beyond that you need to understand what is causing them and what is the best course of treatment in your given situation.

The first thing you can do is take a look at your diet. If you are eating poorly this will affect your ability to pass stools. You may become constipated or you may get diarrhea. As a consequence you will need to start eating foods that will prevent this from occurring.

Start by ingesting more fiber, also drink lots of water. Eat more green leafy vegetables. Cut down on heavily processed foods and eat less red meat. Eat salads with spinach and avoid overdoing it on the dressing such as ranch.

The key of course is not only to treat this issue in the present but to also prevent it re-occurring in the future. This in the long term will prove to be more effective. The added benefit is that you will improve your health while treating this issue.

Hemorrhoids as you know are caused due to pressure upon the veins in the anal area. So when they occur avoid any heavy lifting and take a warm bath to sooth the initial pain.

To conclude keep it simple and set out to improve your overall health this way you will benefit overall.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Diabetics are prone to a condition known as DKA or Diabetic Ketoacidosis. This condition occurs primarily to Type I diabetics but can occur in the Type II diabetics and newly diagnosed diabetics. This is one of the most severe forms of dehydration for any diabetic. Furthermore it has many consequences such as renal failure, pulmonary edema, cardiac events (myocardial infarction or heart attack), and gastrointestinal disorders. We want to look at a few of the major signs and symptoms, something healthcare providers term Poly, Poly, and Poly. This stands for Polyuria, Polyphagia, and Polydipsia.

When blood sugar concentrations are too high and there is not an adequate level of insulin, or no circulating insulin, the body cannot use carbohydrates for energy. They must switch hats and use other things like muscle and fat for a source of energy. The problem here is that these sources are not as effective as carbohydrates and create a byproduct that can be very damaging to the body.

As sugar levels get to high it causes the body to take fluid (water) from inside the cell and in between the cells in tissues. As you remove water from these areas (extra cellular and intracellular) the cells become dehydrated and cannot perform their normal chemical processes; hence you become dehydrated. This is an attempt to balance out the high levels of glucose in the blood and further assist in buffering the acidic state of the blood stream. Further dehydration occurs as your body begins to expel more urine to clear the body of these byproducts (ketones) and excess glucose; free water loss. Actually you can lose up to 6 Liters of free water in the early stages. Remember that the body must have water to function, for Pete's sake we are 60% water anyhow.

Polyphagia occurs because the body is requiring energy and cannot use the carbohydrates that you are eating. As you eat the body is not using the contents of the food and you continue to lose water weight (acute weight loss is a symptom). This means that no matter how much you eat your body cannot use the resources, it is breaking down fat and muscle to get energy.

Polyuria comes from the elimination of increased ketones in the body (ketonuria) and you have exceeded the kidney's threshold for absorbing glucose. The continuation or making urine aids in the free water loss that we spoke of earlier. Dehydration will occur more rapidly. Because the body is excreting the ketones and glucose, you lose further electrolytes like sodium and potassium because of something called osmotic diuresis. Osmotic diuresis is when the concentration gradient in the blood and organs has changed dramatically. In this scenario water is being pulled from the intra and extra cellular areas to balance the bloodstream; remember water moves from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration during osmosis.

Polydipsia occurs as a result from the thirst sensors in the body and a signal from the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus signals you to drink more water because the cells of the body are drying up. This is an attempt by the body to correct the dehydration process. The problem is that you are severely dehydrated, your gastric motility may be slowed, and you have continued vomiting. You require more than what you can physically drink to counteract the problems with homeostasis and blood sugar stabilization.

5 Ways To Stop Blushing

The most extreme of the different ways to stop blushing is surgery but there are plenty of other, more natural, ways that you can stop your embarrassment showing through as a red face.

1. Don't fight your blushing

It's said that whatever you focus on, you get. So if you are concentrating on your blushing, chances are you'll get more of it. So if you feel yourself starting to blush, go with it for the moment. Some of the other techniques discussed below will help you to overcome your reaction but the main thing to do initially is just live with it. Being embarrassed by your blushing will only make it worse. So when the worst happens, chill. Go with it. Accept it.

2. Remember to breathe

Take several deep breaths in (and out, of course) when you find yourself starting to blush. Deep breathing is a natural way to calm yourself. That's right, your mother was right when she told you to take a deep breath when you were upset as a child. That said, remembering to breathe consciously isn't something we're particularly good at. So practice deep breathing when you get a chance. Then it will be easier when you need to breathe deeply the next time. Your heart beat rate will get lower naturally and your red face should lessen as well.

3. Learn to relax

Anything that helps you to relax is good here. Whether it's taking time out to listen to your favorite song, listening to purpose made relaxation CDs, practicing yoga or meditation or listening to a hypnosis track. All of these methods will help you to reduce your blushing or even stop it completely. Different people work in different ways, so experiment until you find the best way for you.

4. Keep a diary

It sounds old fashioned, but when you start to keep a note of when you blush, you'll start to see common triggers that bring out your blushing. Once you've identified one or more of these triggers, you can take the appropriate steps. Either by avoiding the trigger altogether or by changing the way you think and therefore the way you react to the thing that is causing you to blush uncontrollably. As in the previous, you may well find that hypnosis is a good cure for this as it has a habit of getting to the root cause of problems.

5. Improve your self esteem

We often blush when we're not happy with ourselves. This is called our self esteem. If you hold yourself in low regard, you're opening yourself up for problems such as blushing. Whether it's that you don't like your boy or girl friend to see you without clothes on or there is something about your appearance that's making you unhappy or anything else that's causing you to hold yourself in low esteem. It doesn't matter - it just means you need to do something about it! Start by not beating yourself up about whatever it is that is causing your low self esteem. Then get a hypnosis or other program to help you work on it so that it becomes less of a problem over time.

Tattoo Removal is a Long Process

Author: PJ Germain

Tattoo removal is a serious process and often tattoo removal takes longer than deciding to get one and which one to get. Before you make that decision, you may wish to learn more about what tattoo removal entails. Educate yourselves now and then make an informed decision.

A Little Tattoo History and Why Tattoo Removal

Tattoos have become a part of our American culture over the past few decades. There is an estimated 10 million Americans that have at least one tattoo, and at least 44,000 tattoo studios in America. Tattoos are a great way to express yourself. Having a tattoo may have seemed like a great idea at the time, but things change. We find new loves, new jobs, and new tastes. So if the remnants of your past choice of tattoo no longer compliment your present, its time to think about tattoo removal.

One half of all people with tattoos have considered removing them. Besides the obvious reasons of removing tattoos for career enhancement, there are other reasons why many people elect to remove tattoos. As skin ages, tattoos tend to fade and deform. A tattoo that once was shown with pride may lose its attractiveness and, in some cases, even become an embarrassment. Even a change of weight can change a prized tattoo to something less than appealing.

Here are a few things that you should know about tattoo removal, before you get the tattoo:

Laser Tattoo Removal

-Lasers can get rid of most tattoos without scarring.

-It will take 6 to 12 laser treatments to completely remove a tattoo.

-The toughest body parts to remove tattoos include the ankles, hands and fingers.

-Older tattoos with less colors are easier to remove.

-Lasers, surgical excision, and dermabrasion can all be used to remove tattoos.

-Laser removal of tattoos can actually be a bit painful.

Removing a tattoo is no easy process and an important point that people should understand BEFORE getting a tattoo. It is much easier to get the tattoo than to remove it. Here are some of your tattoo removal options:

Tattoo Removal Options

-You could get your tattoo covered by a new tattoo that may need to be around 50% bigger to effectively hide the existing tattoo.

-Laser treatment is the most common method. The process contains wavelengths of light are used for different pigments. The laser beam then passes through the skin and is absorbed by the ink. Once the ink breaks down it can be removed by the body's lymphatic system.

-If the tattoo is too deep or too small for laser treatment, the skin with the pigment can be cut away and the edges sewn together.

-Dermabrasion literally rubs the tattooed skin away with an abrasive tool, over several treatments. If the tattoo is deep, a skin graft may also be necessary.

-Versapulse laser, offering a quick procedure for removing unwanted tattoos. This laser is a low energy laser which can minimize the risk of burning.

-Tat Gone ink removal. After several applications, some see a huge improvement.

Price of Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal is definitely not cheap. A tattoo that costs $40.00 to have it put on can cost $4500.00 to have removed by laser, taking a year or more. Plus, it would leave a scar shaped like the tattoo that would not tan.

Tattoo Removal is a long process. Sometimes the process of tattoo removal is longer than the process of selecting the tattoo.

Why Fad Diets Are Bad For Your Body?

Author: James Ma

Why fad diets are bad for your body? Fad diets are a sort of diet plan or aid that aims at losing weight, usually in a relatively short time. Fad diets attract a large number of people who suffer from weight problems and are helplessly looking to some way of arriving at a shapely physique. The problem with fad diets is that their fat-reducing effect is temporary and results in quick regain of weight. What is worse is that most of these diets are harmful to health.

Fat diets are not as new as they might seem at first. It started more than a century ago when an obese Londoner was prescribed fad diets on experimental basis. It is only after a century and a half that fad diets have become popular as a kind of weight loss diet plan. Teens and young adults especially flock to fad diets for answers to weight problems.

Fad diets require high intake of fats or proteins and low carbohydrates for the sake of rapid weight loss. In fact, this rapid loss is the loss of water that glycogen has stored and not fat loss. With loss of glycogen, the large amount of water stored in it is also lost and therefore fool a person that body weight drops. The fats are still there and once you stop fad diets, the body regains its proportion of water lost. Weight is put back on as fast as it was lost.

Normally, carbohydrates remain the source of energy for work. With fad diets, the carbs are no longer there so the body starts using the stored fat, breaking it down. This may appear beneficial but in fact it is not. In the absence of carbs, fats cannot be completely oxidized and put to work. Hence, the body feels fatigued and weak. In addition, the ketone molecules resulting from the fat-breakdown accumulate in the blood and are excreted out via urine, causing dehydration.

Fad diets may be popular, but they can greatly hurt your body. Be careful with any diet or exercise program and ask your doctor to be sure it is safe.

HIV Tests And Diagnosis

AIDS diagnosis can be done using body fluids (like blood, saliva), or by using body cells (such as those from the inside of the cheek) of the patient as the sample for HIV testing.

Currently, there are two types of tests that are very commonly used to diagnose an HIV infection in a person. The first test is called ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test, which looks for the presence of antibodies produced by the host's body in response to the attack by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. The second test is called PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test, which looks for the presence of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus itself in the body of the host.

If the ELISA test is positive, it indicates that the antibodies (specific to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus) are present in the host's body. However, this positive result of the ELISA test needs to be confirmed by conducting others more specific tests such as the Western Blot or Immunoflouroscent Assay (IFA). If the result of this test is also positive, then the person is said to be HIV positive or seropositive.

However, there are some drawbacks to the IFA Test and they are as follows:

1) The HIV specific antibodies are not detectable until 3 to 6 months after contacting the infection

2) The prolonged wait until the results of the test are available.

To overcome this drawback, another test known as the Rapid Test (which has almost the same level of accuracy as the ELISA test) is being used currently. It gives the results in just 5 to 30 minutes, although the test is comparatively much more expensive.

The PCR test is capable of detecting the genetic material of HIV and can, therefore, detect the presence of the virus in a person's within a few days of contacting the infection.

Other tests for diagnosing HIV include Radio Immuno Precipitation Assay (RIPA), Rapid Latex Agglutination Assay, and p24 Antigen Capture Assay.

Plastic Surgery Pros and Cons

With the growing numbers of people who undergo one form of plastic surgery or another every year. There is still those who would like to know what types of pros and cons plastic surgery has to offer. As the techniques and technology improve, the pros will continuously grown until they have all but completely wiped out the cons. Unfortunately this will not happen any time soon so with every procedure, one is bound to find the cons associated with it.

The number one and most important pro for any type of plastic surgery has to be the emotional well being after the completion of the procedure. Many people this year alone will undergo the knife for one reason and one reason alone. These people know that a simple change to something that either they see as wrong or those around them find to be wrong. Upon the completion of this procedure the patient will find a new part of them with higher self esteem and an improved self conscious.

The outcomes no matter what you are looking for equates to the same. Should your procedure be a success, then you will have improved self esteem and obtained a younger more beautiful you. Unfortunately there are the rare occasions in which a procedure ends up being a failure. These occasions are also call botched procedures and unfortunately they can have the exact opposite effect causing the patient to possibly fall into a fit of depression.

Another thing to remember is that although science and technology are constantly advancing, there is still the chance of complications. These plastic surgery risks are the biggest con for plastic surgery. Much like a successful procedure is a pro, a failure can cause irreparable emotional damage to the patient. Sometimes this emotional damage may be small, while in other circumstances where the patient has been trying everything with no success; it may cause them to fall into a downward spiral as far as their emotional well being is concerned.

In order to ensure that your procedure will be a success it is important to remember to ask a lot of questions as well as doing your research so that you can make well informed decisions regarding your procedure.

The Risk of a Stroke During Plastic Surgery

Author: Dr. Robert Silich

An Unspoken Concern

While most plastic surgeons will outline the risks of having an elective surgical procedure performed, very few tend to speak directly to the issues regarding safety and post operative complications. Often, a surgeon will make a general statement regarding the risks of surgery, such as, "All surgery carries risks which includes, bleeding, infection, difficulty breathing, swelling, clotting, and other illnesses in a small percentage of patients," and then move directly into talking about the benefits of the procedure. Patients need to inform themselves of the actual risks associated with cosmetic surgical procedures, especially the risk of a stroke or cerebral vascular accident (CVA). As a physician, I understand that there is no value in frightening our patients without cause. Yet I still firmly believe that patients should never be too quick to decide on an elective surgical procedure without fully realizing the potential for devastating complications.

Patients and physicians alike need to recognize that most patients who are receiving some sort of cosmetic care are generally considered to be healthy individuals. Thus, neither patient nor physician is necessarily ready for the onset of a complication. This fact alone can make a complication much more serious than if the very same complication arose during a medically necessary procedure. For instance, even during a routine knee surgery, physicians do not see their patients as completely healthy, and are more guarded against the onset of blood clots or other risk factors for stroke.

While the approximated one to two percent of cosmetic surgery patients who will experience a stroke seems like a very limited number of patients, the effects of these strokes can be devastating

Who is at Risk?

Few patients really consider themselves at risk for a possible stroke because they associate the condition as an event that occurs to people over the age of 55. While in some cases age does bear a factor, it is far from the determining factor of a stroke. In fact, a healthy 65-year-old woman can be less likely to have a stroke than a 35-year-old woman who is undergoing invasive cosmetic surgery. Patients should understand the causes of a stroke in a post operative environment in order to assess more realistically their level of risk. However, as a physician I can testify to the fact that sometimes there simply is no way to ascertain why a stroke occurred for one individual and not for another with the same health history, the same risk factors, and the same surgical procedure.

Most post operative strokes occur when a blood clot dislodges, which typically occurs in the lower section of the body. This blood clot then travels through the body and may lodge itself in the brain or more commonly the lungs. This action of a blood clot traveling through the body post surgically is commonly referred to as an embolism and usually arises from a larger blood clot that usually forms in the lower body known as a deep venous thrombosis or "DVT". DVT is a prime concern for surgeons, and can be considered a precursor to a stroke.

Understanding the Potential Danger

Blood clots generally become trapped in either the lung or the brain when they break free from other parts of the body. When the blood clot becomes caught in a blood vessel in the brain, it results in a CVA or stroke. When it becomes trapped in a blood vessel in the lung it is known as a pulmonary embolism or PE. Either condition is life threatening and can carry serious consequences.

While blood clots and strokes are a significant risk for all patients having any type of invasive surgery, plastic surgeons run into a unique scenario that generally makes it a little more difficult for our patients to get treatment and help in a short amount of time. Incidents of blood clots and stroke can happen anywhere between several hours post operatively up to about ten days after surgery. Thus, these incidents rarely occur within a medical environment and usually happen at home. Patients who remain in the hospital or a medical center after a medically necessary procedure are more likely to have these incidents in the hospital.

Patients, who are going to experience a cosmetic procedure, or any type of surgery for that matter, should familiarize themselves with the general symptoms of post surgical pulmonary embolism or stroke. Symptoms that include shortness of breath, chest pain, disorientation, and sometimes even a sense of altered mental status are likely either to be related to a pulmonary embolism or a stroke. Patients and physicians alike should also understand the basic risk factors for these complications and prior to a surgical procedure. While there are still studies being conducted, which will help determine a patient's risk level in the future, there are some pretty basic factors, which point to a likely candidate.

Risk Factors For Patients

Women are more likely to experience these types of complications than men, as are smokers. There are numerous medications, which place patients at a higher risk for postoperative blood clots, including but not limited to hormone replacements and birth control pills. Weight plays a significant factor as does the level of activity the patient generally participates in. Patients who generally lead a sedentary lifestyle are at a higher risk. Obese patients are at an even higher risk. Increased age and a previous history of deep venous thrombosis are more obvious risk factors. Patients who have a current diagnosis of cancer are at a particularly high risk.

Reducing the Risk Factors for Safer Surgery

Whenever a patient is booked for surgery in my practice, I always insist that they have a medical clearance by an internist to help determine their general risk level for elective surgery and the possibility of medical complications, which includes the risk of abnormal blood clotting. I also take into consideration the type of surgery that I am performing on the patient. In general, surgical procedures that have a longer operative time and involve body contouring carry a higher risk than those that are minimally invasive and are performed on the head and neck. The internist will review a list of current and recent medications, as I do myself, and will verify that the patient is physically fit to tolerate the procedure that is desired. There are still no guarantees, but knowing a patient's medical history, their obvious risk factors, and having a second pair of eyes look over the same information that I am presented with, ensures that I am taking all possible precautions.

I also use something known as pneumatic compression boots for every patient undergoing any surgical procedure and I urge other physicians to do so as well. These boots are able to keep the muscles of the lower extremities moving in a fashion similar to walking, which can help prevent blood clots. I insist that my patients carry on an active lifestyle, to help prevent DVT formation and to directly assist with both preoperative and postoperative care. Proper positioning in the operating room allows for additional prevention of blood clot formation as well.

Physicians and patients need to understand that the potential for serious complications related to cosmetic surgery can be devastating. Knowledge is power and education can help reduce the number of blood clots and such rare but devastating complications as strokes that occur after surgery. With current research and education practices, we should be able to reduce the number of post operative strokes and blood clots over the coming years.

The Fitness Success Attitude

Fully 95% of your emotions are determined by the way you talk to yourself. Reaching your desired level of physical fitness is only limited by the degree to which you're mentally and emotionally fit. When you feed your conscious mind with positive messages such as "I feel happy! I feel healthy! I feel terrific!" you are activating your subconscious mind to go to work at bringing about positive results in your physical life.

Here are 3 mental tools that you can use to bring about positive changes in your physical life and increase your level of fitness:

1. Think about it - The law of attraction states that "you are a living magnet, you will inevitably attract into your life the people, ideas, circumstances and resources that are in harmony with your dominant thoughts." This simply means that what you think about and believe with conviction will inevitably manifest itself in your life. You get what you think about!

2. Talk about it - The law of affirmation states that "if you tell yourself in positive, personal, present tense statements that you are or have the thing you desire, that very thing will move closer to you." Remember, you control what is planted in your garden. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds, but if you don't deliberately plant flowers your garden will fill up with weeds by default.

3. Act it - Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Do the thing and you will have the power." What this means for and I is that we can act our way towards better fitness. If you simply resolve to pretend that you are an actress trying out for the role of a happy, healthy character everyday you will soon notice that you are becoming more and more like the person you wish to be. Fake it until you make it.

Your outer life is a mirror reflection of your inner life. The better you feel mentally and emotionally the better you will look and feel physically. Start thinking fit and soon you will be just that!

How Harmful is Stress?

Author: Ivy and Amanda Preston

Eliminating stress is something most people strive for, but is stress really that bad for you?

The results of stress depend upon on the circumstance as well as upon the length of time that stress stays with you. The best way to think of stress is to think of it as an acquaintance that you can tolerate, even appreciate, in small doses.

Ever heard of too much of a good thing? Meet stress. In fact, too much of it will turn him/her into a life-threatening enemy. When stress lingers and stays long-term in your life, it inevitably negatively impacts upon your physical and mental well-being.

According to the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, when stress is present long-term, the body's inability to repair and defend itself weakens. What increases is the risk of someone becoming ill or injured.

When you experience long-term stress, a variety of problems can be thrust upon you. You might have any or all of the following symptoms: headaches, chest pain, high blood pressure, an inability to sleep, shortness of breath, anxiety, weight gain or loss, an inability to concentrate, disminished sex drive, sadness, irritability, forgetfulness, etc.

No one wants these problems, so of course, seeking stress relief is these circumstances is a very good idea. Long-term exposure to consistent stress leads to other, more serious health problems. Some even say that stress is related to about 99% of illness. Why wouldn't anyone be seeking stress relief in these circumstances?

While it's difficult to measure exactly, one thing seems certain: long-term stress is bad for your health, and for your quality of life. And you must find healthy stress relief methods, whether it's yoga, meditating, enjoying a hobby or walking.

No matter how resilient you may be, remember that no good can come out of having constant stress in your life on a regular basis. Absolutely none.

What if you're really stuck and can't immediately see a way out of eliminating stress? It's much more difficult than snapping your fingers and saying, "Ok. Stress, it's over between us. Don't call me ever again unless it's an emergency."

What if it's your job that is giving you stress? If it is, you're not alone. One in four people feel stress from their jobs, according to information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You don't have to necessarily leave it, and if you need the money from it and even like/love it, then you shouldn't quit. You need to find better ways of coping with stress so that it's a win/win situation. You get to keep the job you love and/or need and you don't suffer constant stress from it.

What if it's your relationships that are causing you stress? Should you cut off all ties with these people? Not necessarily, but something about the way you handle the stress from those relationships or the quality of those relationships should improve.

What if stress is coming from a wonderful change, like getting married to the right person or moving to a fabulous new home? It's not surprising that even great events cause stress when they are accompanied by great change. Stress can definitely come from great change--change causes stress.

Very simply put, if you suffer from stress, you need to find ways to manage your stress, to get some great stress relief. This can be done on a small scale and have huge results. Taking even small steps will improve your quality of life and reduce your stress level, which contributes to better health.

Stress relief can certainly be a key ingredient in creating a life that is healthy, happy and longer. Start small steps towards eliminating stress. Commit to meditating every morning for five minutes (before any one else knows you're awake and you'll have better chances of not being disturbed). Take a relaxing bath, go for a walk alone. Stick to one of these new activities and you'll find that stress can be managed.

How to Kiss Your Aches Goodbye

This is how you plan an exercise recovery program to allow the body and mind to recover.

Plan this active recovery program for 2 weeks and your body will love you for it.

  • Change your exercise routine so that your not performing your exercise movement at the same angle as your current exercise routine.
Example: Switch from barbells to dumbells or vice versa. Use a variation between free weights, Hammer Strength, cable machines. Use a fuller range of motion. Perform body weight exercises with a combo of transverse, frontal and sagital planes of motion.
  • Decrease the weight of your resistance and increase the amount of repetitions.
As an example, if you were performing 3 x 10 reps with 35 lbs dumbell curls, decrease the weight of the dumbell to 15 lbs and aim between 15-20 reps. With each rep, use full range of motion. You may even swtich to body weight exercises.
  • Start a flexibility program. Stretch all major muscle groups. Dedicate at least 15 minutes to stretching.
As an example, static stretches are recommended for this 2 week recovery. Use static stretches after SMR treatment. You can use static stretches before (after a 5 minute warm-up) and after your workout routine for these 2 weeks of recovery.
  • Perform self-myofascial release on your feet, legs, hips, butt and back. By itself this can also be a powerful technique for recovery when done correctly. Perform SMR before your static stretching, everyday.
SMR can produce discomfort. This discomfort leads to a relaxation in the muscle. SMR directly stimulates the Golgi Tendon Organ. This relaxes your muscles. When your muscle is relaxed and more pliable not only will build stronger contractions during your repetitions, and a better workout, but more blood can flow within the muscle, which gets the volume up, gets in nutrients faster and gets out toxins faster. It can reduce scar tissue as well. Most people that overtrain have very tight muscles. Your GTO gets use to this tightness, since it is always constant and one day, SNAP, you may tear a tendon or muscle. SMR is highly recommended not only as part of your 2 week recovery, but on a daily basis.
  • Practice some form of meditation before going to bed, eat foods with a balanced nutrition profile and drink plenty of water.
As an example, I firmly believe in KI energy and balancing of that energy. It's important to train the body hard and expend that energy, however your must also remeber to bring in the energy from your macro nutrients, filtered water and from some form of meditation using Reiki. Eat foods that are rich in nutrients and provide a good source of energy and help the body recover. Drink at least 3-4 litres of water a day. Use Reiki each night before going to bed or another form of KI energy balance.
