
Certain chemicals found in the urine can make one develop kidney stones. They include calcium phosphate (non-acidic) and ascorbic acid. The ascorbic acid acidifies the urine and dissolves the phosphate and is made of magnesium ammonium phosphate. To dissolve these chemicals, one needs to increase their intake of vitamin C as it not only prevents the formation of these solid materials but also cures them.

To prevent yourself from accumulating unnecessary oxalate, do not eat rhubarb, spinach or chocolate. Some people are however prone to forming oxalate. What they should do is eat certain fruits and vegetable juices which have high levels of citrate. This helps in slowing down uric acid growth while preventing the formation of calcium salts. Since most kidney stones are caused by excess calcium, avoid carbonated drinks especially colas but increase your intake of vitamin C.
